THOMPSON FALLS – The Thompson Falls Bluehawks hit the road last week and traveled to Eureka to face off against the Lions for a Friday night matchup under the lights.

The Bluehawks quickly found themselves in a hole, following one quarter of play with Eureka up by a score of 14 -3.

Despite allowing two early touchdowns Thompson Falls was able to regroup and put up 13 points of their own in the second quarter of play.

Eureka added eight points in the second frame and the score stood at 22-16 at halftime.

“The team stuck in the game. Eureka put up points in the first quarter but we got back in it,” Thompson Falls Head Coach Jared Koskela.

The offensive outburst by both squads was countered by a defensively dominated second half of play.

The score remained 22-16 until the final two minutes of the game, with neither team scoring in the third quarter of the first portion of the fourth and final quarter.

Trailing by six points, the Bluehawks had an opportunity to get the ball back with decent field position in the final minutes of play.

The Thompson Falls defense had forced Eureka into a third and short, where a defensive stop could provide the Bluehawks the opportunity to launch an eleventh hour game winning drive.

However, Eureka’s offensive line was up to the task and the home team was able to keep the game out of reach with a long distance running touchdown to put the game out of reach and set the final score at 30-16.

“We had plenty of opportunities during the game. We just need to take advantage of them,” Koskela said.

MacKenzie Holt who took a touchdown in on the ground following a 24-yard burst from scrimmage powered the Thompson Falls offense.

Quarterback Greg Wadsworth added the team’s second touchdown, breaking out of the pocket and taking the football in on his own for a 13-yard score.

Next week the Bluehawks will return home for the school’s homecoming festivities.

The homecoming football game will be held Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. and will be against the Plains Horsemen.
