County teams compete in county tourney
MINERAL COUNTY – All three county teams competed in the Mineral County Shootout last weekend, coming away with varying degrees of success against teams from across the region.
In all, fifteen teams competed in the day-long tournament which took place in St. Regis, Superior and Alberton. In Superior, Lady Bobcat Head Coach Beth Janney and her team split the difference, winning half their games over the course of the tourney. Janney said the team was able to pull out wins against Hot Springs and Two Eagle River.
“They did a really good job,” Janney said. “Things are starting to click for them. Our offense is getting a lot faster. Our passes are getting to their targets and we are getting a lot more chances for kills.”
Earlier in the week, the Lady Bobcats beat Hot Springs on the road in straight sets. Janney said she might shake things up this week with the lineup and try some of her players out at different positions.
“We need to work on running plays and try some girls out at positions they haven’t played before,” Janey said.
The Lady Bobcats will next face Charlo who beat them earlier in the season but Janney said she was excited for the rematch because last time, she wasn’t playing her full varsity squad.
The St. Regis Lady Tigers struggled a bit in the tournament. Head Coach Jennifer Pruitt said her team would rebound from a rough tournament and come out next week better for it.
“We need to work on getting our passes to our setter,” Pruitt said. “We will also be working on our serving and getting our passes to our targets.”
The Lady Tigers will play two home games this week against Hot Springs and Noxon.
