HOT SPRINGS – Following a week full of homecoming festivities including a parade and a pep rally last Thursday, the Hot Springs Savage Heat football team took the field on Friday night to face off against the West Yellowstone Wolverines.

The Savage Heat maintained their hot start to the season expanding their winning streak to four games and improving their record on the year to four wins and zero losses.

“Everything went well. We got off to a fast start and put together a good game plan on defense to stop the run,” Hot Springs Head Coach Jim Lawson said.

The team’s performance last Friday was one of their strongest on the season and the home team put up 29 points in the first quarter, on their way to a stunning 75-0 win on homecoming weekend.

Senior running back Mathian Alt opened the scoring for Hot Springs with a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Savage Heat offense was far from done on the night and the six-man team was led on the offensive side of the ball by sophomore running back Trevor Paro.

Paro accounted for three of the Savage Heat’s touchdowns compiling 66-yards on the ground in the team’s victory.

Paro’s touchdown runs came from 27-yards, 7-yards and 11-yards out respectively.

Another big score for Hot Springs came in the first quarter, when senior quarterback Tanner Hoff connected with senior Lane Foster on a 49-yard passing play.

The Savage Heat defense was also able to add on to the team’s point total when alt recovered a fumble in the end zone for a Hot Springs touchdown.

With the Hot Springs offense charging towards 75 points the team received contributions from throughout their roster.

Another particularly strong performance on the night belonged to Hoff who threw for 95-yards on the night and three passing touchdowns as he led the offense to victory.

Though the team is off to a great start Lawson emphasized they are taking the season one game at a time.

“We take it one week at a time and make sure we don’t overlook anybody,”Lawson said.

Up next for the Savage Heat will be a road game against Lima.

The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Lawson expects a tough matchup from Lima and said his team will emphasize special teams and offense in this week’s practices.

“I think we will keep working on special teams and work on our pass game a little more,” Lawson said.
