Trotters compete at home
PLAINS – The Plains Trotters hosted the Eureka Lady Lions to cap off homecoming weekend at Plains High School.
The District 7-B matchup featured stiff competition and close sets as Plains eventually fell to Eureka in four sets.
After dropping the first set by a score of 25-17, the Trotters rallied in the second frame to even the match’s score.
After Plains took an early lead in the second set, the Eureka squad launched a rally of their own and made things interesting.
Thanks to some impressive net play and spot-on serving the Trotters were able to hold off the Lady Lions and take the second set by a score of 26-24.
With the match tied at one set apiece, neither side was willing to give ground and the third set was a thrilling frame of competition.
Eureka took a commanding lead in the latter portion of the set and stood one point away from victory.
However, thanks to a series of effective serves from Senior Rebekah Barnard, Plains got the score to 24-22 setting up a competitive final point in the set.
The Plains rally was halted by Eureka who were able to take the set by a score of 25-22.
The match was decided in the fourth set, where Eureka achieved a 25-15 victory.
Plains is now 3-5 on the year.
Junior Leah Thompson made her presence known throughout the match.
Thompson recorded five kills and three blocks in the afternoon competition.
Senior Hailey Phillips also contributed a strong performance on defense, adding three blocks to the team’s total.
Collectively, the Trotters put away 12 kills, seven blocks, 15 digs, 10 assists and seven aces.
Plains next match is against Bigfork on Saturday, Oct. 4. p.m.
