Bluehawks win homecoming game
THOMPSON FALLS – The Thompson Falls Bluehawks and Plains Horsemen met in an inner-county matchup last week under the lights at Previs Field.
The game marked the culmination of Thompson Falls homecoming festivities as the Bluehawks were able to withstand an early offensive surge from Plains to win the game by a score of 35-12.
Thompson Falls attributed the team’s success to the boys’ ability to maintain possession and move the ball down the field.
“We finally were able to get our power football game to work,” Thompson Falls Head Coach Jared Koskela said.
The Bluehawks didn’t enjoy offensive success throughout the game and the Horsemen were able to jump out to a 12-7 lead at the start of the second quarter.
After Thompson Falls scored the opening touchdown of the game on a 15-yard passing touchdown from senior quarterback Greg Wadsworth to sophomore running back Mack Holt, Plains answered with a long offensive drive of their own.
Plains capped off the drive with a well-executed hook and ladder pass play, which senior tight end Kyle Revier completed by running the ball in for a 10-yard score.
The Horsemen kept up the trickery and were able to recover an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff to maintain possession of the ball.
Plains took advantage of the successful onside kick, driving the ball down the remainder of the field and putting six points up on a 25-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Ryan Ovitt to junior wide receiver Trent Brouillette.
Plains Head Coach Juan Lulack was impressed with how his team performed to open the game.
“We played pretty darn competitively in the first half. The team never quit,” Lulack said.
After Plains grabbed the 12-7 advantage the Bluehawks responded with two touchdown drives of their own before half time, both capped off by touchdown runs by Holt to grab a 21-12 lead at the break.
The Blue Hawks would add to their point total in the second half securing the 35-12 win in the District 7-B rivalry game.
Next up for Thompson Falls will be an away matchup under the lights against Ronan on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
