Savage Heat continue to roll

HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Savage Heat football team continued to roll through their regular season schedule, earning another big win on the road last weekend.
Maintaining, the team’s perfect record and improving to 6-0 on the season, the Savage Heat downed the Big Sandy Pioneers on Saturday Oct. 11, by a score of 50-0.
Hot Springs was able to get on the board early and often and by the end of one quarter of play, the Savage Heat were up by a score of 24-0.
“The boys went out and playerd hard. We were able to get the early lead,” Hot Springs Head Coach Jim Lawson said.
Lawson was impressed with the team’s ability to come out after a lengthy bus ride and compete from the opening to the closing whistle of the game.
The team added 13 points in the second quarter and an additional 13 points in the second half to reach the game’s final score.
Sophomore running back Trevor Paro opened the scoring, snagging a 25-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Tanner Hoff to put the Savage Heat on the board and give the team a lead they would never relinquish.
Paro also made an impact on special teams, returning a Pioneers punt 50-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of play.
Senior fullback Nate Gray and junior tight end Jack Dolson also added first half scores for the Savage Heat.
Gray scored on a run from five yards out and Dolson was on the receiving end of a 40-yard touchdown pass from Hoff.
Hot Springs also made big plays in the second half of the afternoon game, and Hoff kept the ball and on a QB keeper took it to the end zone for a 60-yard touchdown run.
In addition to his touchdown run, Hoff threw for three touchdowns in the game against Big Sandy.
Junior running back Jameson Morigeau caught one of those touchdown passes and scored the final points of the game for Hot Springs on a five yard touchdown pass from Hoff.
Up next for the undefeated Savage Heat will be an away game against the Lone Peak Big Horns.
Lawson is anticipating a tough matcup with Lone Peak but is excited for the challenge and believes his team will be ready for next weekend’s game.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
