SUPERIOR – The Superior Bobcats got their first win of the season last Friday, beating the team from Noxon 52-22 during the homecoming game.

The team was lead by an offensive clinic put on by Bridger LaPierre who ran for 277 yards, scoring three touchdowns and three successful conversions. LaPierre wasn’t just racking up stats on offense.

Josh Benda contributed to the offensive onslaught with a spectacular catch deep in Red Devil territory off the strong arm of freshman quarterback Michael Perkins and promptly ran the ball into the end zone for another Bobcat score.

LaPierre wasn’t just getting it done on offense. He also had 23 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Head coach Allan Labbe said the team owed a lot of their success to the improvement of the younger players who have had to step in to fill for injured upperclassmen.

“We’re improving every week,” Labbe said. “We were starting to establish a good tempo which we hadn’t been able to do in previous games. This was the first game where we had everybody knowing where they were supposed to be and knowing the snap count and that’s what we have to do to be successful.”

Labbe especially praised the play of his young quarterback. Perkins has been filling in for the Bobcat’s injured starter and back up for the last few games.

“He really stepped up and took control,” Labbe said. “He was really in control. We didn’t have any miscues. There were a lot less turnovers and that was a big part of it.”

The Superior Bobcats will next face Phillipsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
