A season to remember

ST. REGIS – For the first time in over a decade, St. Regis is home to a winning football team after the Tigers defeated Lincoln on the road going 5-4 on the 2014 season.

The Tigers struggled with injuries near the beginning of the season but managed to pull through on the backs of their seniors Gibson Lowry, Andrew Managhan and Dakota Wickham. The Tigers couldn’t have done it however without their young players stepping up when injuries sidelined some upperclassmen a few times.

Juniors Elias King and Dillion Morales aided by sophomore Trevor Lowry were there when it counted when the big three needed a break. And let’s not forget the freshmen who may have gotten a little more experience than they expected this season.

Robert Dahl, Connor Dunlap, Eric Eslick, Brandon Managhan and Ryan Teeter helped head coach Rob LaBrie bridge the gap when players needed a rest. Assistant coaches Charles Burton and Sandy Dahl helped by managers Brock Cantrell-Field and Madison Dahl rounded out the field for the Tigers during their winning season.

Head coach Rob LaBrie said after three quick scores in the Lincoln game, he let his seniors do some of the coaching of the younger players.

“It was fun to see,” LaBrie said. “It was a good game and a great way to wrap up the season. It feels great but all the credit has to go to the kids. They did great. They were the ones playing the game. There is a really strong trust between me as a coach and them that they are going to do the right thing. I trust them and that’s what has generated the success. It wasn’t that I came up with some great scheme.”

LaBrie said, looking forward, the coaches at the St. Regis High School expect to have a full varsity team next year.
