Letters to the Editor; Value of a sheriff

| September 11, 2014 3:30 PM

Dear Editor,

There is a lot of talk about our elected county sheriffs in Montana standing up to Federal intrusion and in fact refusing the trespass into our counties without reasonable cause.

We elect our County Sheriff to protect us and uphold the Constitution.  We do not elect the I.R.S., Home Land Security, E.P.A., The Attorney General of the U.S., and we do not elect any of his law enforcement officers, whoever they may turn out to be.

Thus, our only valid protection from an appointed cabinet member of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government who has proven that he can be driven to break the constitution of the U.S. is our elected County Sheriff.

We have already had a U.S. Attorney General (Janet Reno) who broke the constitutional rights of citizens in a county in Idaho and citizens in a county in Texas.  Children were murdered in both cases by the Federal Government.  These are not isolated cases.  There are more on record.

We as Christian Conservatives, Tea Party Members, People who pay more than our fair share of taxes are scared stiff at what we see as a major injustice perpetrated by the U.S. Department of Justice.  We fear for the freedoms of our country as we watch them fading away under the leadership of this Attorney General who we did not elect.

We elected our County Sheriff and we expect him or her to uphold the U.S. Constitution and protect us from a run-away administration that condones elections without showing I.D.’s and condones Black Panthers intimidating voters in certain precincts, and condones the rights of people to riot and loot stores and condones making judgments without benefit of a trial and much more.

Les Wood,

Plains
