PLAINS - Peggy 87, beloved mother and grandmother passed on Sept. 3, 2014 of natural causes with her loyal dog Toby by her side.

Peggy was born the first child of Clyde and Louise Southwick in Grant, Nebraska on March 1, 1927. She met and married Jim H. Steinebach on August 26, 1950. In 1956 they moved to Superior and then to Plains where they made their home for 20 years. They then moved to Missoula and lived there until 2012 when she moved back to Plains to be closer to Beth and Linda.

Peggy’s sister-in-law Judy said it best...She was a grand lady, a peppery personality with a heart of gold. She loved her family and her small dogs who were all good to her. Peggy was so feisty and independent. We admired and respected her for that. Will our generation have as much spark and spunk?!

Peggy is survived by six children, Linda (Gary) Ovitt of Plains; Joan Thomason of Lolo; Beth (Wayne) Vacura of Plains; Jim G. (Jody) Steinebach of Evaro; Susan Galarneau of Missoula and Virginia (Keith) Faust of Helena. She is also survived by five brothers and one sister, Art (Carol) of WA; Harold (Sue) of ID; Floyde of ID; Marvin (Judy) of B.C. Canada; Eldon of ID and Oleatha Kelley of ID. Also eight grandchildren, Willy (Carolyn) Ovitt of Plains; Margi (Craig) Hermance of Belgrade; Judy (Charles) Johnson of Lolo; Andy Allestad of Plains; Amber (still waiting) Vacura of Plains; Travis (Nikki) Vacura of Missoula; Aimee Harris of Ronan; Mary (Colin) Marshall of ID and 17 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and a very special nephew Russ and Nan Steinebach of OR.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Jim Steinebach and brother Dwight Southwick and Glyda Estella Southwick.

Cremation has taken place and the family will hold graveside services at a later date. In lieu of flowers Peggy has asked for donations to be made to Plains Senior Citizens or Plains VFW Auxiliary.

Services are entrusted to the care and direction of Brothers Mortuary and Crematory of Hamilton.
