THOMPSON FALLS – The Bluehawks footall field traveled to Choteau, gaining experience and improving on the field.

The game took place on Friday, Sept. 12 and according to Head Coach Jared Koskela, the score did not reflect the amount of improvement his team saw on the field.

“We traded punches in the first four minutes of the game,” Coach Koskela said, stating the Bluehawks scored first, followed by a touchdown of Choteau and were able to answer their opponent’s points with a long bomb touchdown.

“In the first four minutes of the game, we were leading them,” he said.

After that the coach said the game got away from them, but with Choteau being the toughest team the Bluehawks will face, the outcome was surprising.

The final score was 14-54.

Trais Hoisington once again stood out on the field. As Thompson Falls’ secret weapon, Hoisington powered through the competition and performed well on the edge, stated Coach Koskela.

“They stuck two guys on him,” Coach Koskela said.

The team has steadily improved and the coach said everyone is improving equally across the lines, but that does not mean the work is complete.

“Everybody has something to work on still,” Coach Koskela said.

The team has been working hard on their blocking and although they are getting better, they remain focused on improving their defense. The boys are also focusing on getting their roles straightened out.

“(We’re working on) doing your job and your job only,” Coach Koskela explained. “Some kids are having trouble double teaming.”

The goal is to make sure each kid knows which guy he is responsible for, sticking to their plan of attack throughout the game.

The coach said the team was changing for the better and that the team was looking forward to their conference games, their main focus for the season.

Up next the team will be facing Deer Lodge, a strong, well coached team. The Bluehawks are ready to get revenge on the team after they fell to their opponents last year.

“They have a very talented aerial attack that I’m going to have to game plan for,” Coach Koskela said. “They throw it through the air and are very good at it.”

The team is currently preparing for the showdown and the coach hopes they are better prepared for Deer Lodge after seeing them last year.

The game will be at home on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
