PLAINS – The Trotters volleyball team cruised their way to two home victories over the weekend, giving the team three consecutive wins on the week.

Both the Troy and the Deer Lodge fell to the resurgent Plains Trotters at the quad-meet held at Plains High School on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Trotters Head Coach Annawyn Griffin said she was pleased with the improvement of her young team.

“Overall the team is starting to flow better. We are not as choppy and the transitions are getting better,” Griffin said.

Competition started for the Trotters at 11 a.m., when they faced off with Troy.

Plains started the day off on the right foot by taking down the Trojans in three sets.

The Trotters won the first set with a 25-19 victory, and followed the initial performance up with two 25-12 wins.

Freshman Jessica Thompson made a big impact at the net for the Trotters, earning two blocks for the home team, half of the squad’s total, during the first match.

Senior Hailey Phillips also made a notable contribution to the match with fives aces for Plains.

The team’s final match of the day against Deer Lodge proved to be a much closer affair, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout the contest’s four sets.

In the first set of the match the Trotters jumped out to an early 10-5 lead but were unable to maintain their advantage and dropped the set by a score of 25-22.

However, Plains rallied and took home the last three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-22 and 25-21, to secure their second victory of the day.

Digs proved critical for the Trotters in the match with sophomore Kristen Josephson making a few point saving plays throughout the match.

Sophomore Hailey Coe also made a critical contribution to the victory striking four aces during the afternoon match.

Earlier in the week the Trotters were victorious in a home match against the St. Ignatius Bulldogs.

Plains compiled more kills than the Bulldogs, finishing the match with 18 kills; St. Ignatius ended the evening with 14.

The Trotters won the match in three sets taking the first by a score of 25-18, the second 25-22 and the last match by a final of 25-15.

Phillips led the way during the team’s first victory on the season, finishing the match with seven kills and four blocks.

Heading into next week Plains now sports a record of three wins and two losses.

Plains will next head to Thompson Falls for an away match on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
