MISSOULA – Track and field teams from St. Regis and Alberton competed last week in Missoula at the Jim Johnson Invitational track and field meet during what was at times cold and snowy weather and at other times bright and sunny.

The event, hosted by Alberton, took place not far from the University of Montana at Dornblaser field and featured teams from all across the region. While the meet was dominated by schools from neighboring Sanders County including the two-time defending state champs, the Plains Trotters, the event did give some Mineral County athletes a chance to shine under the dreary weather and cold breezes.

Andrew Managhan of St. Regis placed in the javelin with a toss of 141 feet 2 inches. Managhan also tied for first in the high jump with a mark of  5 feet 11 inches. Brandon Managhan wasn’t about to be outdone by the senior Managhan. He tied for second with a height of 5 feet 8 inches.

Andrew Managhan also placed second in the triple jump.

For Mineral County girl’s track and field teams, Alberton’s Taylor Erdman placed fifth with a height of 4 feet 6 inches.

Mineral County teams will be at it again soon. The team from Superior, after taking some time off for spring break, will be taking on opponents at the Florence Invitational this Thursday.

The team from St. Regis and Alberton will be in Corvallis on the same day in the invitational hosted by Darby.
