Plains girl's track team takes first in Missoula

MISSOULA – Sanders County track and field athletes competed not only against one another but also against the conditions during last week’s meet in Missoula.

In the team competitions the Plains girls took first place.

The Plains Trotters ended the invitational with 272 points, well ahead of second place finisher Arlee, whose team totaled 144.6 points.

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks took third in the meet with 138 points.

Senior Hailey Phillips who picked up three wins on the day led the Trotters.

Phillips took first place honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.85.

She was also able to cross the finish line first in both hurdles events.

Phillips won the 100-meter hurdles with at time of 15.60 and earned first in the 300-meter hurdles with a 47.34.

The Trotters also took first in five other events en route to their first place finish at the Johnson Invitational.

Plains took first in both relay events winning the 400-meter relay with a 52.59 and the 1,600-meter relay with a 4:31.44.

Junior Kimberly Earhart ran to a first place finish in the 800-meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:38.81.

Demi Horton of Plains took second in the 800-meter event with a 2:41.44 and Analisa Loberg placed fifth finishing with a 2:43.81.

Earhart took third in the 1,600-meter event with a finish of 5:47.81, followed by Loberg who placed fourth with a time of 5:59.63.

Earhart also took first in the Javelin event with a throw of 130-8.

Plains Head Coach Denise Montgomery noted Earhart achieved a personal record in the javelin event.

Plains junior Carley VonHeeder took second in the Javelin with a throw of 118-6 and Leah Thompson placed fourth with a 107-9.

In the shot put the Plains girls took the top three spots in the throwing event.

L. Thompson finished first with a throw of 37-9, Jessica Thompson took second with a 34-8 and Kayla Holmes placed third with a throw of 34-1.

Shannon Dimond of Plains took third in the 100-meter sprint with a finish of 13.60 and fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 28.34.

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawk received strong performances from several athletes throughout the meet.

The girls of Thompson Falls took fifth in the 1,600-meter relay, with a time of 5:00.10.  

Shey Hannum took first in the high jump event with a jump of 5-0. Kristin Vowinckel of Thompson Falls placed fourth in the high jump with a 4-6.

S. Hannum also placed third in the triple jump event with a 32-2 and fifth in the long jump with a 15-3.

Autrey Hannum of Thompson Falls also had a big day at the meet taking second in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.85. Lindsay Laws took fifth in the event with a time of 18.34.

A. Hannum also placed second in the long jump, the triple jump and the pole vault event. In the long jump.

A. Hannum jumped to a 16-1 and in the triple jump she ended the day with a 32-9. Hannum placed with a 7-6 in the pole vault event.

Madison Wheeler took fifth in the pole vault event for Thompson Falls with a 7-0.

Bridget Thor finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles for the Lady Hawks, crossing the finish line with a 57.69.

Logan Beckman took fifth in the shot put event with a throw of 30-9.

Beckman also placed fourth in the javelin event with a 101-5. A. Hannum was right behind Beckman placing sixth in the javelin event with a throw of 100-5.

Up next for Thompson Falls and Plains will be the Missoula County Invitational in Missoula on Saturday, April 11.

Montgomery noted the Plains athletes would face a tough field of competition at the team’s next meet.

“It will push our individual performers,” Montgomery said.
