THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks of Thompson Falls faced off against Western B-C opponents Troy for two games last Thursday.

Thompson Falls, the host team, took the first game of the doubleheader thanks to some timely late inning hitting from junior infielder Shelby Bowden.

The Lady Hawks, who collected nine hits in the contest, had left runners stranded during the middle innings but in the bottom of the sixth Bowden doubled with the bases loaded, sending all three runners home and giving Thompson Falls a 5-2 lead.

The home team would not relinquish their late lead as Madi Fitchett finished off her complete game with a scoreless seventh inning to give the Lady Hawks the win.

Fitchett allowed only two hits in the first game of the doubleheader and struck out ten Troy batters.  She also helped herself out at the plate with an RBI.

Troy scored first in the day’s opener, plating a run in the top of the third, but the Lady Hawks responded immediately driving in two runs to seize the lead in the inning’s bottom frame.

Troy would retie the game in the next inning and the matchup would remain deadlocked until the Lady Hawks late surge in the sixth.

Junior infielder Tamara Brubaker ended the first game going 2-4 at the plate, both of her hits went for doubles.

The second game of the day would not go Thompson Falls’ way, as the Lady Hawks were unable to overcome an early offensive outburst by the visiting team from Troy.

Troy would go on to win 9-6, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after three innings of play.

Thompson Falls rallied in the top of the fourth scoring three runs but Troy was able to escape the game with the split of the day’s series.

Freshman Lexi Van Elswyk, who also pitched from the circle for the Lady Hawks in game two, had a successful game at the plate driving in three runs.

Thompson Falls also competed over the weekend, taking on the co-op squad of Mission-Arlee-Charlo on the road in St. Ignatius on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks fell to the Bulldogs 13-3.

Thompson Falls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the game’s opening inning but the Bulldogs tied it up in the bottom of the second and seized a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Hawks got two runs back in the top portion of the fifth but the Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a five run frame in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Brubaker led the Thompson Falls offense with a double and two RBIs and went 2-2 from the plate.

Fitchett tripled and went 2-3 from the plate, while Shaelyn Townsend doubled for the Lady Hawks in the away game and was 1-3 at the dish.

Next up for the Lady Hawks will be a road game against Loyola Sacred Heart in Missoula on Thursday, April 16.
