PLAINS – The Plains-Hot Springs Trotters held their first home competition of the season last week as the team hosted the Ronan Maidens.

The Trotters and Maidens fought some inclement weather throughout Tuesday afternoon and managed to get both halves of the scheduled doubleheader in.

Ronan, who defeated Plains-Hot Springs 11-1, controlled the first game of the twinbill.

The Trotters trailed by only 4-1 after two innings of play but a five run third inning put Ronan firmly in control of the doubleheader’s first game.

In the first game junior Danika Whitcomb went 1-3 at the plate with a double and sophomore Hailey Coe was 1-2 with a RBI.

Game two of the day featured a substantial amount of offense from both lineups.

The final score was 18-12 in favor of Ronan.

The Maidens appeared to be running away with the game early on and were up 13-2 after three innings of play.

However, in the game’s fourth frame Plains-Hot Springs put up five runs to make the score 13-7.

Ronan added two runs of their own in their portion of the frame and answered the Trotters’ three runs in the sixth with their own three run inning to send the game to the seventh with Ronan leading 18-10.

The Trotters pushed two runs across the plate in their final at bats before the Maidens recorded the game’s final out.

Plains-Hot Springs received offensive support from throughout their lineup in the second game of the doubleheader.

Senior catcher Jena Peterson was 2-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.

Senior shortstop Sami Kinzie went 4-5 on the day and also drove in three RBIs.

Junior Leah Thompson drove in two RBIs and was 2-3 at the plate.

Josey Carr, a senior, also had two RBIs in the doubleheader’s second game.

Up next for Plains-Hot Springs will be a home game against county rivals, Thompson Falls.

The game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 5 p.m. and will take place at Plains High School.
