Obituary; Norma G. Vance Brodd

Norma G. Vance Brodd passed away peacefully at home in Mill Creek, Washington on March 13, 2015 at the age of 88. Norma was the daughter of Russell and Hazel Grunhuvd and was born on the Grunhuvd farm near Hysham, Montana in 1927. She lived most of her life first in Montana near Hysham and Superior, and then in Idaho near Boise, spending the last two decades of her life in Port Ludlow, Washington. She had recently moved to Mill Creek.

Norma was predeceased by her first husband, Roy L. Vance and survived by her brother, Norris Grunhuvd of Superior, Montana, her husband, Robert Brodd, and her son, David Vance and daughter Lana Sanderson. She leaves two grandchildren, Dan Sanderson and Kate Holly, four great grandchildren, and many friends throughout the northwest who will miss her.

Norma was a gracious, warm woman who lived a storied life growing up on the Grunhuvd farm, then in a one room schoolhouse in Sanders near the Yellowstone River where her mother taught, and later in Hysham in the Grunhuvd family house. Norma attended the University of Montana in Missoula before marrying Roy Lewis Vance after VJ day in August, 1945.

Norma was an energetic and talented woman who led successful careers as a tax accountant for Vance Insurance and Accounting in Homedale, a placement director for ITT Links School of Business in Boise, and as a personnel director for the Elk’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Boise, as well as a loving and creative wife, mother, and homemaker.

Roy and Norma raised their family in Boise and Homedale and moved to Port Ludlow after retirement. In accordance with her wishes, Norma’s family will inter her cremains at a simple gathering of remembrance on Sunday, May 3rd at 3:00 P.M. at the Methodist Church in Superior, followed by graveside rites at the Superior Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church at 1111 Franklin Street, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
