PLAINS – The two Sanders County softball teams went up against one another last week at Plains High School.

In March, during the teams first meeting of the season it was Plains-Hot Springs who defeated Thompson Falls.

However, in the second matchup of the year the Lady Hawks evened up the season series notching a win on the road over the Trotters.

Early on the competition was evenly matched with the teams trading runs throughout the early innings.

The Lady Hawks struck first, scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first.

The Trotters answered back in the bottom of the frame and seized a 3-1 lead after the opening inning.

It didn’t take long for Thompson Falls to retake the lead as the road team put up three runs in the top of the second to make the score 4-3.

Over the next two innings the Lady Hawks cushioned their lead adding four runs of insurance to make things 8-3.

Thompson Falls broke things open in their portion of the fifth inning as the team put up seven runs of offense to make the score 15-3.

Despite facing a twelve run deficit Plains-Hot Springs did not pack things up and the home team chipped away at the Thompson Falls lead during the game’s final innings.

The Trotters got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth, plated a run in the sixth and in their final at bats in the bottom of the seventh they put up two more runs.

The Lady Hawks got the final out with the score 15-9.

The Trotters got plenty of extra base hits form their offense with senior Josey Carr going a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and three RBIs.

Carr was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle in the game against Thompson Falls.

Sophomore Kristen Josephson was 2-4 with a triple and sophomore Hailey Coe was 1-3 with a double for Plains.

Junior Tamara Brubaker who was 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs powered the Lady Hawks offense.

Freshman Haley Morgan, junior Shelby Bowden and freshman Shelby Hooten also added RBIs for Thompson Falls.
