Whitefish hosts Sanders County track athletes

WHITEFISH - Over the weekend track and field athletes from Plains, Thompson Falls and Hot Springs traveled north to Whitefish to take part in the Whitefish ARM Invitational meet last Saturday.

In the girls competition both Plains and Thompson Falls finished near the top of the pack with top five point totals.

The Trotters took second in the meet with 94 points and the Lady Hawks finished the day in fourth place with 66 team points.

Plains senior Hailey Phillips led the charge for the Trotters taking first place honors in several events.

Phillips crossed the finish line first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events.

She took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.94 and clocked in at 26.92 in the 200-meter event.

Phillips also took first in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles with times of 15.28 and 45.85 respectively.

Leah Thompson took first for the Trotters in the shot put event with a throw of 38-10.50.

Kayla Holmes of Plains took third in the shot put event with a throw of 37-2.

Holmes also took first place honors in the discuss event, throwing a 145-6.

In the 100-meter dash Holmes placed sixth with a time of 13.54.

Leah Thompson finished in second in the discuss event with a throw of 127-1.

In the 3,200-meter event Kimberly Earhart of Plains took second with a time of 12:08.60 and Demi Horton, also of Plains, finished in fifth with a time of 12:44.53.

Earhart also took fourth in the javelin event with a throw of 117-4.

Taking fifth in the javelin event was Carley VonHeeder of Plains who threw a 114-4.

Shannon Dimond of the Trotters took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.51.

Autrey and Shey Hannum led the Lady Hawks in Whitefish.

S. Hannum took first in the high jump event with a jump of 5-0, A. Hannum took second in the event.

In the long jump event A. Hannum finished first with a jump of 17-1.50 and S. Hannum took third in the event with a jump of 15-11.

A. Hannum took second in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 15.72.

S. Hannum placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.73.

She also took fourth in the triple jump event with a 32-1.

In the javelin event S. Hannum took second with a throw of 123-0 and Logan Beckman placed third with a 121-3.

In the boys competition the Thompson Falls Bluehawks took fifth in the meet with a team score of 47 points.

The Hot Springs Savage Heat finished in 11th with a team score of 14 points and the Plains Horsemen took 13th with a team score of 13 points.

In the 1,600-meter relay event the Bluehawks took third place with a time of 3:39.39.

In the hurdle events Thompson Falls got some top finishes from Garret Strine and Josh Wulfekuhle.

Strine took second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.68 and Wulfekuhle finished in fifth with a time of 44.49.

Wulfekuhle also placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.84.

McKenzie Holt finished second in the discuss event with a throw of 141-8.

Tanner Law of Thompson Falls took third in the 800-meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:07.86.

Laws also placed fourth in the 1,600-meter event with a 4:47.47.

Dan MacDonald of the Bluehawks placed sixth in the 3,200-meter event with a time of 11:48.70.

Anthony Byrns and Trevor Paro led the Savage Heat in Whitefish with strong performances during the invitational.

Byrns took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.30 and placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a 11.55.

Paro took fourth in the triple jump event with a jump of 40-1 and finished the long jump event in sixth with a jump of 18-6.50.

For the Horsemen, senior Russell Kujala took first place in the 1,600-meter event with a winning time of 4:44.33.

Kujala also placed fourth in the 3,200-meter event, finishing the race with a time of 10:48.30.
