The Plains Horsemen verses the Eureka Lions game Saturday night was a close fight the whole night, with each team trading the lead. By the end of the game it was an all out brawl to see who would finish on top.

The first quarter was the perfect example of how the game was going to play out. The Horsemen took the lead right off, but quickly the Lions took over and it looked like they were going to push ahead at the four minute mark, with a ten to five lead. However, the Horsemen fought right back and tied it up, 10 to 10. They then climbed ahead, but then the Lions caught right back up, and the first quarter ended in a tie at 15 to 15.

The neck and neck fight continued into the second quarter, through the halfway mark, with neither team more than three points ahead of the other. The score at halftime was Plains 28, Eureka 31.

The third quarter saw each team trading roles, but only by a point or two. The stands were going crazy the entire time. Cheers and chants continued all the way through the third and into the fourth quarter. Coaches yelled, and disagreements arose between players, coaches and refs. It became evident this was turning into a full fledged fight to the end.

The third quarter ended in a tie with both teams at 40 points. In the fourth quarter, the fate of the game was sealed. Up until the five minute mark the two teams were too close in points to see who would come out on top, but then the Lions started making a couple of strong, consecutive drives, and started pushing ahead. They gained a five point lead. The Horsemen stalled for a bit, and the Lions slowly increased the gap. The crowd was going wild at this point, because they knew the game was still not over till the buzzer sounded. The Horsemen started catching up, and came within three points of the Lions with two minutes left on the clock. The score was Plains 56, Eureka 59. With little time left on the clock, the Lions climbed ahead and in the end beat the Horsemen 67 to 63.

The top scorers of the night were Ryan Ovitt, who scored 20 points, Aaron Baker with 19 points and Kyle Revier made 13 points.

It was evident that the Horsemen were feeling the defeat, but Coach Benson could be seen congratulating the guys on putting up a hard fight. “It’s hard when they score one-hundred percent in the fourth quarter.” said Benson, descibing how the Lions got ahead on in the minutes of the fourth.
