Trotters get by Lady Hawks

PLAINS – The Plains Trotters and Thompson Falls Lady Hawks met for a county rivalry game last Thursday at Plains High School.

The two Sanders County teams kept it close throughout the first half but as the second half progressed, the Trotters were able to distance themselves from the Lady Hawks with a 55-25 victory.

The win moves the Trotters to 13-2 on the season.

Plains jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Lady Hawks 17-10 in the first quarter.

Thompson Falls remained within striking distance through the second quarter and trailed 26-15 at halftime.

The Trotters pressed their advantage and played an impressive sequence of lockdown defense in the second half, holding the Lady Hawks to ten second half points.

In the third quarter, Plains outscored the visitors 13-1, staying hot in the game’s final frame to secure the 30-point win.

Senior Kayla Holmes led the Trotters on offense scoring 14 points in the rivalry game victory.

Plains juniors Kimberly Earhart and Jade LaDeaux, and senior Hailey Phillips each contributed eight points of offense to the win.

Junior forward Shey Hannum and freshman guard Lindsay Laws powered Thompson Falls’ offense during the contest.

Hannum ended the game with nine points, while Laws contributed eight points during the road game.

Up next for the Trotters will be a home game against Whitefish on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Last weekend the Thompson Falls squad also hosted a game against the Eureka Lady Lions.

The game was hard fought from start to finish but in the end the visitors from Eureka earned a close 45-41 win.

Eureka held an early lead from the end of the first quarter, where they outscored the hosts from Thompson Falls 14-10.

The Lady Lions built off their lead in the second quarter but the Lady Hawks stayed close, and the game went to the half with Eureka holding a 25-18 lead.

The Lady Hawks fought throughout the second half, maintaining their rally through two quarters but fell just four points short when the final seconds of the game ticked away.

Thompson Falls scored ten points in the third quarter and the game went to the final frame with Eureka up 37-28.

In the fourth Thompson Falls nearly closed the distance outscoring the Lady Lions 13-8.

The Lady Hawks move to 7-9 as the regular season enters its final week.

The Lady Hawks will next play an away game against Bigfork on Friday, Feb. 13.
