Bluehawks win

THOMPSON FALLS – The Thompson Falls Bluehawks honored their senior basketball players before the start of the team’s game against Noxon last Saturday.

Bluehawks fans honored seniors William VanHuss, Dylan Vaught, Greg Wadsworth and Dalton Hooten before the start of the afternoon’s games.

The Class B Thompson Falls boys closed out their regular season schedule against another team from Sanders County, the Class C Noxon Red Devils.

The Bluehawks got off to a fast start and were up 25-4 after one quarter of play.

The pace slowed down in the second quarter and the game went to the half with Thompson Falls leading Noxon 35-7.

The host team continued to build on their lead in the third quarter and heading to the game’s fourth frame of competition, Thompson Falls led 49-15.

In the game’s fourth quarter the Red Devils offense outscored their opponents 11-10 but competition ended in favor of the Bluehawks, 59-26.    

Senior Dylan Vaught led the Thompson Falls offense, scoring ten points against Noxon.

Bluehawks senior William VanHuss and freshman Dylan Beckman also made solid contributions on the offensive side of the court.

Both VanHuss and Beckman ended the game with nine points.

For Noxon, junior Grant Fitchett who scored 12 points against Thompson Falls, helped power the Red Devils offense.

Noxon also got a strong showing from junior Zach Osborne, who ended the game with seven points.

Both basketball teams were also active earlier in the week, with Noxon hosting the Superior Bobcats and Thompson Falls traveling to Bigfork to play the undefeated Vikings.

In the Noxon game, Superior’s strong showing on offense during the first half proved too much for the Red Devils to overcome and Superior won the game 56-20.

Osborne and Fitchett led the Red Devils on offense.

Both scored seven points in the game against Superior.

For Thompson Falls, their matchup against Bigfork was a meeting of the top two teams in District 7-B.

Despite a hard fought game, Bigfork was able to retain first place in the district following a 57-49 win over the Bluehawks.

Bigfork was in control throughout the first half but the Bluehawks came roaring back during the game’s final two quarters.

Bigfork opened the game with a16-9 lead and the Vikings did not let up in the second quarter, extending their lead to 32-17.

Despite trailing by 14 points the Bluehawks found their rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 13-11.

Thompson Falls continued to gain momentum in the game’s final quarter, again outscoring their opponents 19-14.

Despite outscoring Bigfork 32-25 in the second half, the Vikings early lead proved enough to maintain their undefeated season with a 57-49 win over Thompson Falls.

Bluehawks junior Joe Frields led the team on offense, scoring 15 points.

Junior Trais Hoisington also had a productive night on the offensive end, finishing the game with 13 total points.

The Thompson Falls boys ended the regular season with a 13-5 record and will open up tournament season with a home game against the Eureka Lions.

The playoff opener is slated to take place at Thompson Falls High School and currently scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.
