The game Thursday night between the Plains Horsemen and Whitefish was a special night for the senior players of the team. It was Senior night, which meant that before the game started, the players who were seniors were escorted out to center court by their parents. An announcer read aloud a thank you note written by the senior players and small gifts were given to their parents. Bios of the players were also read. Once the congratulations were over, the game began.

The game Thursday night was a tough one. It turned out to be a hard fight to the end.

The first quarter was a game of strong defense on both sides. By the middle of the first quarter, Whitefish had 2 points, the Horsemen had 0 points. Each team shot, but the rebounds were turned over. Pass interception also played a large part of the first quarter.

By the end of the first quarter the score was Horsemen 2, Whitefish with 6, but it looked like the Horsemen were ready to fight back.

The second began with Kyle Revier scoring one point from a free-throw and then Charlo scored two points. However, the Horsemen came back with a succession of a three-pointer and a two-pointer, tying up the game. The the Plains opponents scored two points again and then got one point from a free-throw. The score was Plains 8, Whitefish with 11 by the middle of the second quarter.

In the last half of the second quarter, Whitefish jumped ahead, scoring nine points, and the Horsemen scoring only five.

The score at halftime was the Horsemen with 13, Whitefish with 20.

In the third quarter, the Horsemen got within striking distance in the beginning, coming within five points of Whitefish. They felt the pressure and made a strong push ahead and maintained at least a nine point lead for the rest of the quarter. The Horsemen fought hard offensively in the third quarter, racking up 12 points. Whitefish scored 14 points. By the end of the of the third quarter the score was, Horsemen 25, Whitefish 34.

The first half of the fourth quarter went to Whitefish, who at one point were 15 points ahead of the Horsemen. Despite this gap, the Horsemen fought hard and closed that gap back to just 10 points.

The final score was the Horsemen 37, Whitefish with 47.

Ryan Ovitt, Alec Cole, Aaron Baker and Brenen Abromeit all scored six points. Kyle Revier led the team with seven points.

Coach Benson described the night simply as, “Like there was a lid on the bucket.” The Horsemen shot a lot, but just couldn’t sink them, and they missed vital free-throws. The coach was proud, though, and said, “We played pretty good...”

Tuesday night will be a game against Troy, meaning that it is a determining game to see who goes to the Tournament. If the Horsemen win, then they will go to Big Fork Thursday and then Columbia Falls Saturday to play for a position within the Tournament.
