Plains - The Plains Trotters enjoyed a sweeping victory Thursday night over  Whitefish. The entire game belonged to the Trotters, who held a major lead over their opponents throughout the game.

Quickly in the first quarter the Trotters picked up points. Hailey Phillips scored the first point from a free throw and quickly helped lead the team to a 10 to 0 point lead by the middle of the first quarter.

The second half of the first quarter went the same way, with Phillips picking up more free throws and scoring multiple times again to help bring the team’s score to 18 points by the end of the quarter. Whitefish fought back, but gained only six points.

To start off the second quarter, the Trotters scored a three-pointer and the stands went wild. Defensively, the Trotters played extremely well in the second quarter. The Trotters scored slightly less then they did in the first, scoring 13 points, but they only allowed Whitefish two points the entire second quarter. With the Trotter’s strong defense, the score at half-time was 31 to 8.

During the third quarter, it went a little slow, with the Trotters stalling at 35 points, while Whitefish scored enough to nearly double their points. However, the Trotters were still far enough ahead to not feel much pressure. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 40 to 18.

In the fourth quarter the Trotters kicked it into high gear and played the way they did in the first quarter. In the first half of the fourth quarter the Trotters allowed their opponents one point and scored seven points.

During the last half of the fourth quarter the Trotters scored nine points. The last two points were scored with just seconds to spare. = played their best quarter, making 11 points.

The final score was 56 to 29, the Trotters taking the win.

Hailey Phillips led the team in points, making 19 points. Kayla Holmes and Carley Vonheeder both scored 10 points.

“I think they did pretty well... The girls ran sets and sometimes they ran sets by themselves, which was good. I’m really proud of the girls.” said Coach Griffin.

The upcoming weeks will be hard-work for the Trotters. They have one more game coming up, and then it will be the tournament. “We’re confident, but we know we have to work for it. It’s going to be a lot of hard-work in the next two to three weeks.” said Coach Griffin.
