Friday night’s Horsemen basketball game against the Loyola Sacred Heart Rams was a fight to the end, but some fundamentals of basketball were missed, which lead to an increasing gap in points throughout the night.

Despite an early lead in the first quarter with a lead of Horsemen (eight) - Rams (two) by the four minute mark the Rams quickly closed the gap and took the lead with 21 points and the Horsemen with 14 at the end of the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter the point gap grew quickly with the Rams scoring another 20 points while the Horsemen gained only 12 points. Six of the Horsemen points were gained during right at the end of the quarter. The Horsemen made a three point shot and then was fouled by a Ram player. The Horsemen were given three free throws, which they made.

The game continued on into the third. The Horsemen were plagued with many missed free throws, which was a major determining factor in an ever increasing gap in the points. It was evident that the Horsemen were pushing themselves to the very end, but mishaps and a strong adversary, which continued to make multiple three pointers started to seal the deal by end of the third quarter.

By the end of the third quarter the Horsemen had only gained seven points, while the Rams gained 18 points, leaving the score at Rams (59) - Horsemen (33).

The Horsemen gave their best performance during the fourth quarter, with a gain of 18 points. However, their fight at the end proved only to be en example of their heart and fight to the end, as the Rams gained another 20 points, finishing the game with the  Rams at 79, the Horsemen with 49.

Coach Allen, described the night and team as such, “I think our team hustles very hard... We fight to the end.” He then continued on to say, ”Our free throws need some work.”

Fighting the fight, which by most standards was a losing battle around the second quarter, was Alec Cole, Allen described Cole as, “... one of our main floor leaders.” and that he, “plays with a lot of heart.”

When the statistics of the night were calculated, Head Coach Benson, said that, “We were only 11 for 33 with free throws.” He then described that nerves and losing composure were also a determining factor during the game. However, with a proud look said, “They all played hard and gave 100 percent.
