Savage Heat roll through weekend

HOT SPRINGS – The Savage Heat improved to 4-2 on the year after a big home win over the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks.   

The game was hard fought throughout the four quarters of play and the Savage Heat used strong performances by sophomore guard Trevor Paro and senior forward Nate Gray to earn the 77-68 victory.

Paro ended the night with 30 points on offense scoring 16 points in the first half to help Hot Springs seize momentum during the Saturday game.

Gray scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half and was also instrumental in the team’s victory.

The Savage Heat trailed Seeley-Swan 15-14 after one quarter of play, but the home team made up the deficit in the second quarter, taking a 33-30 lead into the half.

Hot Springs’ offense really got going in the third quarter, where the team put up 23 points to increase their lead to 56-44 heading into the game’s final frame.

The Savage Heat withstood a late rally by the Blackhawks, who put up 24 points in the fourth quarter to cap the nine-point victory.

Junior guard Sam Hoff scored six of his ten points in the second half to help ensure the win for Hot Springs.

As a team the Savage Heat were able to outscore Seeley-Swan 44-38 in the second half of last Saturday’s matchup.

The Hot Springs boys were also busy on Friday, when the team hosted the Superior Bobcats.

Friday’s game came down to the final seconds, when a late three by Hoff helped seal the 44-42 win for the Savage Heat.

Hoff ended the game with 15 points and Paro added 17 points of his own in the team’s third win of the season.

Hot Springs jumped out to a 12-11 lead after one quarter of play but Superior came roaring back in the second quarter scoring 15 points to end the first half with a 26-16 lead.

The Savage Heat chipped away at the lead in the third quarter outscoring Superior 11-10 and sending the score to 36-27 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Hot Springs put up 17 points in the games final quarter to secure the two-point win.

Up next for the Hot Springs Savage Heat basketball team will be a home game against the Noxon Red Devils on Friday, Jan. 9.
