MINERAL COUNTY – Mineral county boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were busy last week, mostly on the road.

For the boys’ teams, Superior played a hard fought match against Two Eagle River. Despite strong offense from Aaron Kelly, who had 28 points, and Vicente Guerrero, Michael Perkins, Josh Benda and Luke Boyce, the team barely dropped the game. The final score was 62 to 58.

The Bobcats will next face Noxon in a cross county shootout on the road on Friday, Jan. 16.

For the St. Regis Tigers, their fast paced brand of basketball was not enough to hold off Darby who won the game 101 to 69. Brock Cantrell-Field put up 16 points for the Tigers while Dakota Wickham added 15 points of his own. The two weren’t alone in scoring. Brandon Managhan put up 9 assisted by Andrew Managhan who had 6 points. Gibson Lowry also had 4 points in the game.

The St. Regis Tigers will next face Hot Springs on the road on Jan. 16.

On the girl’s side of the court, Superior gained an impressive win over Two Eagle River on the road winning 66 to 48. The Superior defense proved to be too much for the Eagles, overpowering them up and down the court. An early offensive onslaught helped the Lady Bobcats establish a comfortable lead which they rode all the way to victory.

Junior Marissa Koke lead the team with 15 points. Danielle Ewoniuk added 11 of her own aided by Jordan Mueller who put up 11 as did Hannah Hollenback. The Lady Bobcats put up over 40 points in the second and third quarter combined.

The team will next face the St. Regis at home on Thursday, Jan. 15.

The Lady Tigers of St. Regis were narrowly defeated by the Tigers of Darby last week with the final score being 45 to 36. The game was close until the last quarter when Darby opened up a lead and never looked back. Darby outscored St. Regis 18 to 8 in the fourth quarter.

Gabby Moeller kept the team in it, scoring 13 to lead the Lady Tigers. She was assisted by Courtney Cheesman with five points and Madison Hill with nine. Not to be outdone, Anna Sanford scored two points and Pilar Field added seven of her own.

The St. Regis Lady Tigers will next face Hot Springs on the road in a cross county shootout on Jan. 16 with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
