Thursday’s night game between the Plains Horsemen and the Thomson Falls Blue hawks quickly became a one-sided match, with Thompson Falls taking the lead and holding it throughout the night.

The first quarter was a close fight. The Hawks made the first points with a three pointer. The Horsemen responded, scoring a two pointer, but then Thompson Falls scored another three pointer. The score was now 6-2. Each team continued to score back and fourth with three and two pointers, and at the end of the first quarter the score was Thomson Falls with 14, and Plains with 11. It was still early in the game, and anything could  happen, but something happened to Plains.

The second quarter was dominated by the Hawks. The Horsemen were unable to score a single point until there was approximately 1:10 left on the clock. Thompson Falls continued to make one drive after another, scoring two and three pointers. Plains defense looked overwhelmed as the Thompson Falls offense continued to push hard, and the Thompson Falls defense stopped any attempt by Plains. By the end of the second quarter there was quite a large gap with the Hawks in the lead at 31-15,.

In the third quarter Thompson continued to rack up points as Plains tried to recover and dig out of the hole they were in. The Hawks did not score as much as they did in the second quarter, only eight points in all. The Horsemen scored a total of 10 points, but it was not enough to make Thompson Falls worried.

Starting the fourth quarter with 39 points, the Hawks continued their climb, offense and defense both playing well. With 4:38 left on the clock Thompson had racked up another 11 points, making their score 50, while the Horsemen had gained only four points, leaving them with a total of 25.

During the last half of the fourth quarter both teams only scored four points each, making the final score 54-29, Thompson Falls taking the win.

Coach Benson of Plains said, “We let their pressure get the best of us... We got a little discouraged... Then our defense got overwhelmed.” He then said that the team needs to work on their sets and their corners, this will allow the defense to start working and they will come along.
