Plains finally got back on the winning track Friday night after a series of losses. The game, Plains Horsemen vs. Hot Springs Savage Heat, was a very physical game that left both teams exhausted.

Coach Benson of Plains said, “We stuck them man to man the whole game because we wanted to work our defensive sets... When they started picking it up on the defensive end, and the offensive end started rolling, and we started our offensive sets and we got some easy shots...”

The first quarter was a little slow for both teams, with Plains earning only 12 points and Hot Springs with seven points. Plains was showing signs of being ready to jump ahead, but recently it had been losing its early leads in the past couple games.

Hot Springs just couldn’t gain enough points to put pressure on Plains to make them worry, though they eventually picked up their game and made Plains have to work hard to maintain their lead.

Plains made consistent progress and during some parts of the game dominated the court. Near the end of the third, Plains had a 20 point lead over Hot Springs. Hot Springs, near the end of the third quarter, could only close the gap by 18 points, Plains with 49, Hot Springs 31.

Hot Springs played its hardest in the fourth quarter, gaining 14 points, and put some pressure on Plains, but it was not enough. Plains played very hard and scored an extra 15 point, taking them to 64 points.

Coach Ricky Depoe was not completely pleased with the turnout of the game for the Savage Heat of Hot Springs. “With our defense, I thought we were going to step up to the challenge, but we didn’t. That is one thing we need to work on, defense... Offensively, we shot the ball terribly, and we didn’t run anything and that’s not a typical game for us.” he said after the game. He then said the team was going to work on defense and shooting the ball.
