Horsemen battle competition
PLAINS – The Horsemen earned a hard fought home win last week against the Ronan Chiefs.
Plains used some timely shooting and strong defensive play to outlast Ronan and come away with the 50-45 win.
Competition was tight between the two teams throughout the game and after one quarter of play the score stood even 11-11.
It was the Horsemen who earned a narrow advantage during the second quarter of play and the teams went to the half with Plains up 23-22.
As the second half started the teams continued to trade scores and at the start of the fourth quarter the score was 34-33 in favor of the Horsemen.
Plains then outscored the Chiefs 16-12 to earn the five point win last Thursday.
Accuracy from the free throw line was critical for the Horsemen who were 9-13 on the night from the charity stripe.
Senior Kyle Revier led the team’s offensive output scoring 19 points on the night.
Sophomore guard Ryan Ovitt also made a substantial contribution on offense, ending the game with 15 points.
The Horsemen were on the road the next day traveling to Libby for an evening game last Friday.
Against Libby, Plains found themselves in another shootout but the Horsemen were unable to walk away from this one with a win and Libby proved victorious in a hard fought 50-48 win.
The game was tied until the final seconds when a late Libby bucket gave the hosts the two-point victory.
The Horsemen jumped out to an early lead going up by one-point after one quarter of play, leading 17-16.
The game remained close through the second quarter and the teams were all locked up at half time 24-24.
Libby’s offense came out swinging in the second half and the hosts were able to seize a 34-30 advantage.
The Horsemen rallied to tie in the fourth quarter but were unable to come away with the win on the road.
Sophomore guard Alec Cole led the Plains offense with 13 points, while Ovitt contributed 11 points of his own in the close game.
