CHARLO – The Hot Springs Savage Heat rolled to their seventh win over the weekend, besting the Charlo Vikings on the road.

The Savage Heat trailed at the half but used 17 second half points to secure the 42-39 win against Charlo.

It was the Vikings who jumped out to an early lead after one quarter of play, edging out Hot Springs 13-11.

However, the Savage Heat found their stride during the second quarter and shrunk the deficit to one-point as the two teams went to the half with Charlo leading 26-25.

Hot Springs seized the lead during the third quarter and at the start of the game’s final quarter the Savage Heat clung to a 35-34 lead.

During the fourth quarter Hot Springs outlasted Charlo to earn the three point victory.

Sophomore guard Trevor Paro led the Savage Heat offense with 19 points during the game.

Senior forward Nate Gray and junior center Jack Dolson each added eight points to Hot Springs’ effort on offense.

The win moves Hot Springs to 7-3 on the season.

Additionally, Saturday’s victory was not the Savage Heat’s only win last week.

Last Friday Hot Springs hosted the St. Regis Tigers earning a big 80-57 home victory.

The Savage Heat ended the game on a 21-7 run to put away the visiting Tigers.

Hot Springs used a quick start to jump-start their offense, going up 25-12 after one quarter of play.

In the game’s second frame Hot Springs built off their early lead and took a 41-27 advantage into the halfway point.

St. Regis refused to go quietly and the visiting team scored 23 points in the third quarter to make the score 59-50 in favor of Hot Springs.

Nevertheless, the Savage Heat survived the rally and used a big final quarter to put away the game and earn the team’s sixth win on the year.

The Savage Heat were led by Paro and Gray who each scored over 20 points.

Paro notched 28 points, while Gray added 21 of his own points en route to the 80-57 win.

Up next for Hot Springs will be a home game on Friday, Jan. 23 against Two Eagle River.
