HS wins thriller

HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Savage Heat hosted the Two Eagle River Eagles last Friday and came out on top after a competitive game against their District 14-C opponents.

The Savage Heat held off a late Eagles rally to secure the 55-50 win and move their record to 8-3 on the season.

The game was close throughout its entirety but it was Hot Springs who led after one quarter of play.

The home team jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and continued the offensive pressure during the second quarter to take a 27-23 lead into halftime.

Two Eagle River showed no quit and came out hot in the third quarter outscoring the Savage Heat 16-14 to move the score to 41-39 in favor of Hot Springs at the start of the game’s final quarter.

The Savage Heat regained the initiative in the fourth quarter outscoring the visiting team 14-11 to secure the five point victory.

A large portion of the Savage Heat’s offense came from sophomore guard Trevor Paro who had a huge night on offense, ending with a total of 32 points against Two Eagle River.

Additionally, junior center Jack Dolson made his presence felt in the paint, earning 11 points for Hot Springs in the district win.

Following the home win against Two Eagle River, the Hot Springs boys went on the raod to face off against the undefeated Arlee Warriors in District 14-C competition.

Heading into Saturday’s game Arlee, with a record of 11-0 stood on top of the district, with Hot Springs at 8-3 in second place.

The Savage Heat were unable to dethrone Arlee from their top spot and the Warriors remained perfect with a 90-46 win.

Junior guard Sam Hoff led the Hot Springs attack, earning 12 points in the road game.

Dolson also helped out the Savage Heat offense scoring ten points against the Arlee defense.

The Savage Heat’s season record now stands at 8-4.

Up next for the Savage Heat will be an away game against the Superior Bobcats on Thursday, Jan. 29.
