Lady Hawks win over Falcons

THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks of Thompson Falls secured a win at home last weekend, defeating Florence 49-33 on Saturday at Thompson Falls High School.

The game remained close until the final quarter of play and at the end of the third quarter both squads were tied 29-29.

It was the Lady Hawks who caught fire at the right time going on a 20-4 run to end the game and secure the big home victory.

Florence held the narrow advantage after one quarter of play but the game remained very close at 7-6 to start the second quarter.

The game’s second frame was as closely contested as the first but Thompson Falls outscored Florence 12-11 to send the game to halftime all square at 18-18.

The game remained deadlocked throughout the third quarter with both teams netting 11 points.

The offensive blitz by Thompson Falls at the end of the game proved the difference and moved the Lady Hawks’ record to 6-6 on the season.

Freshman guard Lindsay Laws led the Lady Hawks offense throughout the game and ended the contest with 21 points.

Junior forward Shey Hannum also proved to be a force on the offensive side of the court scoring 13 points against Florence for Thompson Falls.

Saturday’s game against Florence wasn’t the only home game for the Lady Hawks last week.

The Thompson Falls girls also hosted Libby last Friday.

The competition against Libby was another close game for the Lady Hawks but the visiting Loggers used a big final quarter to earn the 57-48 win over their hosts, Thompson Falls.

The game was close from the beginning but it was the Lady Hawks who led 14-13 after one quarter of play.

The visitors form Libby responded during the second quarter, outscoring Thompson Falls 23-17 to take a 36-31 lead into half time.

Thompson Falls rallied in the third quarter narrowing the deficit to two points after the home team outscored Libby 10-7 to star the second half.

Leading 43-41 to start the game’s final quarter the Loggers went on a 14-7 run to secure the road victory against Thompson Falls.

Hannum led the Lady Hawks with 20 points of offense against Libby and Laws added ten points of her own in the Friday night contest.

Up next for the Lady Hawks will be a road game against the Superior on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
