ST. IGNATIUS – The Savage Horsemen traveled to the Mission Valley over the weekend to take on area wrestling teams at the Mission Mountain Tournament.

Savage Horsemen head coach Kenny Marjerrison was pleased with how his team performed over the weekend.

“The kids wrestled pretty well last weekend,” Marjerrison said.

Though it was not a placing tournament Marjerrison believes the Mission Mountain competition helps his team prepare for the final portion of the season.

The team went 24-14 at the round robin tournament and got some decent matches to prepare themselves for the final month of the winter wrestling season.

Despite the team’s success in St. Ignatius, Marjerrison noted there are things he wants to work on in the upcoming week of practice.

“We need to work off bottom a little bit and maintain our conditioning,” Marjerrison said.

The coach noted the team is in pretty good shape and would focus on short and intense practices in the following week.

Earlier in the week the Savage Horsemen traveled to Deer Lodge for a mixer, and though several members of the team didn’t compete in the mid-week mixer, Marjerrison was pleased with the team’s efforts.

This week will keep the wrestlers of Plains-Hot Springs quite busy as the squad will head to the Thompson Falls Quad Meet on Thursday, Jan. 29, a mixer in Florence on Friday, Jan. 30 and end their week with a mixer invitational, which will take place at Hot Springs High School on Saturday, Jan. 31.

“It is tiring on the kids for sure, but they are used to it,” Marjerrison said.
