MINERAL COUNTY - Dozens of people gathered last week to take part in an annual event that celebrates the lives of those who have survived cancer and to remember those lost to the debilitating disease.

Teams took turns walking the track at the Superior High School as part of the annual Relay for Life event held every year in Mineral County. One of the organizers of the Mineral County Relay for Life said while attendance was down slightly, she was still happy with the turnout.

“Things are going very well,” Peggy temple said. “We have twelve teams this year so that’s good.”

Temple said there were some changes this year to encourage participation. She said organizers understood the commitment people have made in previous years so organizers decided to shorten the event. In previous years, the relay has lasted all night and into the morning but this year, the event ended at midnight.

“We hope having a shorter relay will encourage people to get involved and we will still accomplish our goals.”
