A new author holds a special book signing

PLAINS - Tuesday night a very special guest returned home to the Plains Public Library. From 5:30pm to 6:30pm, Carol Morden, a new writer on the scene, held a book signing in the seating area of the library. Her book is titled, Dry Bones. Morden, who once lived in Plains and has since left to greener pastures, returned to Plains for a son’s high school reunion and a family reunion. Along the way through Plains to her reunions, the library asked her to have a book signing in what she refers to as her first and most important library.
“This library, from the time I was very little and we of course didn’t have electricity and whatever, Mom would bring us here once every two weeks, we could get as many books as we wanted... And I fell in love with books,” Morden said at her signing. She explained how books enriched her life and taught her many things. When Morden reached a point in her life where she did not have to work full time, she said that she decided to try and write a book and loved the process. As of right now, Morden is an office administrator at the church where her husband is the pastor.
Morden, explaining her book, said, “It is about a pastor’s wife and she is a little unhappy with her life and who she’s kind of become, she’s lost herself. She ends up going to a class reunion and a really good friend of hers was murdered and through the process of finding out who murdered him, she also finds out a little bit about herself.”
Though the main protagonist is a Christian, Morden emphasized that it is only a part of character development and says it is, “who she is in the world.” Morden said she wanted to create a story where there is Christians and non-Christians, and meld two types of genres of books together, Christian and non-Christian.
Morden said, “I’m just trying to make them all people,” describing her characters and plot.
From start to finish, Morden said the process took three years to produce her first book.
“The is my first one, so I had to keep going back over and over and the story changed a little bit from the beginning,” she said, then adding, “The hardest part is learning the publishing business.”
When it was all said and done, Morden described the process as, “amazing,” and the most exciting thing she has ever done.
Morden is already working on another book. It will be a sequel to her first book. She says that it will be easier, now that she knows the character and the business of getting a book published.
