SANDERS COUNTY – The annual Sanders County Yard Saleing Event brought treasure hunters to locations from Heron to Hot Springs last week.

Those in search of bargains braved the stifling temperatures over the weekend as they scoured affiliated yard sales in various portions of the county.

The saleing event was a three-day affair with yard sales opening for business on Friday, June 26, continuing on Saturday, June 27 and reaching a conclusion on Sunday, June 28.

Shoppers had plenty of options on where to shop last week with sales taking place in Paradise, Hot Springs, Plains, Thompson Falls, Trout Creek, Noxon and Heron.

Many of the towns partaking in the countywide event had multiple yard sales running throughout the three days of yard saleing.

One organization that took part in this year’s yard saleing event was the Sanders County Dog Training Club.

The dog training club was sponsored by Big Eddy’s and set up for the yard sale next to the establishment on Main Street in Thompson Falls.

The club ran their sale from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday of last week.

Jan Manning of the dog training club noted that though the heat seemed to keep the majority of shoppers away Saturday, the club had a great day on Friday.

“It was a very good Friday for us. Today (Saturday) was a little slow but that was probably due to the weather,” Manning said.

Despite the heat Manning was enthusiastic about the club’s participation in the county sale and was pleased with how the week turned out for the group.

According to Manning, money raised by the club at the yard sale will go towards funding for the Thompson Falls dog park.

In Plains, the Agape Christian Pre-School used their sale to raise funds for students to attend preschool.

“All of our proceeds go to scholarships for proceeds go to scholarships for preschool tuition,” Tifini Saner said.

Saner added the group was doing a donation-based sale where people could donate what they could towards the group’s efforts.

The county yard saleing event, which started in 2007 serves as a way to drive traffic to communities throughout Sanders County, injecting supportive economic activity as the summer tourism season goes into overdrive in northwestern Montana.

The Sanders County Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting economic activity within the county, put on the annual sales extravaganza.

Tour 200, the tourism division of SCCDC was also instrumental in planning and organizing the multi-day saleing event.
