Stage 1 fire restrictions remain

| July 28, 2015 4:16 PM

MINERAL COUNTY - Despite some precipitation last week, the fire danger level in Mineral County remains very high and stage 1 fire restrictions remain in effect until further notice.

Superior Ranger District Fire Prevention Officer Jim Ward said the public should still exercise caution and be prepared to completely put out a fire. The public was reminded to be ready with tools and water in the event a fire got out of control.

“Wednesday through the weekend will be dry with temperatures warming quite a bit under a high pressure ridge. Expect near normal temps in the upper 80s Wednesday then a return to lower to mid-90s Thursday through Sunday. So, we remain in Stage 1fire restrictions and Very High fire danger,” Ward said.

It was also indicated by Ward tht the small amount of precipitation the area had receieved recently would do little to mitigate the fire conditions on the ground.

“Even with the mild and somewhat showery weather we have received, our fire indices and fuel moistures still have us in the Very High Fire danger category,” Ward said.

Stage 1 fire restrictions were still in effect in surroung areas as well.

The restrictions remained in effect in neighboring Sanders County and Missoula County.
