SUPERIOR – A representative from the office of U.S. Senator Steve Daines met with Mineral County commissioners last week to hear some of their concerns regarding issues within the county.

Northwest Field Representative for Daines, Kyle Schmauch, was in Superior last week to meet with the commissioners primarily about land management issues. Mineral County Commissioner Roman Zylawy said he was encouraged by the meeting and that Schmauch seemed genuinely interested in what the commissioners had to say about pressing concerns in Mineral County.

“He wanted to know what was on our agenda and what he could do to help us,” Zylawy said. “Primarily we talked about Forest Service issues and land management. He seemed to understand and hopefully he will take this back to the senator.”

Zylawy said they spoke at length about a bill proposed by Daines that would make it harder for environmental groups to litigate projects like timber sales and other proposals that deal with forested land in Mineral County.

“Hopefully they can muster enough votes for it to pass,” Zylawy said.
