Alumni and students battle on the basketball court

HOT SPRINGS - Friday night in the old gymnasium the 4th annual Alumni Basketball Games were held in Hot Springs. At 6:30 it was the women’s alumni game and at 7:30 it was the men’s game.

The alumni, who paid in to play, were pitted against the current Hot Springs boys or girls teams. The alumni teams consisted of young and old, some of the players were fresh out of the school, while others graduated years ago.

In the end, the both alumni teams held strong and continued a winning streak for both teams. However, both Hot Springs teams gave the alumni a run for their money.

During the first quarter of the women’s game, the alumni made a strong, finishing at 12-0.

The Lady Savage Heat started to catch up in the second quarter and one point closed the gap to, Alumni 12, Lady Savage Heat 6. Then the alumni made a string of points and finished in the lead at 22 - 6.

The alumni maintained a strong lead in the third quarter and finished at with a 20 point lead at 38 - 18.

Though the Lady Savage Heat fought hard, the alumni finished on top with a final score of 48 - 24.

The men’s game was very close game, where the outcome could not be predicted until the last minute.

The alumni kept a lead in the first quarter against the Savage Heat, but at the end Tanner Hoff made a three pointer and the alumni only led by 16 - 15.

After nearly being taken over by the Heat, the alumni jumped ahead and the Heat had to play catch up. At the sound of the buzzer, the alumni controlled the board, 34 - 27.

The third quarter was a close with each team trading control of the ball. However, the alumni maintained their lead and finished the quarter, 47 - 42.

The game would go to the alumni in the end. The final score was 62 - 54.
