Food bank in Superior still in need of assistance

SUPERIOR – With fall and winter holidays long behind the residents of Mineral County, the people who run the food bank in Superior understand that it is easy for people to forget there is still a need for supplies to help the less fortunate.

But they are hoping people will help if they are able. And while the shelves are well stocked after a recent delivery of food, Marlene Adair said the number one way people can help if they want to is financially.

“It goes fast,” Adair said. “I try to start working on things for Thanksgiving in September. We did get a truck recently but we go through things pretty fast and we don’t get another truck for four weeks. We can always use all the help we can get. The biggest way to help is financially. It’s a matter of trying to keep the shelves full.”

Adair said she had been involved with the Mineral County Food Bank for over a decade. The facility is located in Superior and is open on Fridays. Adair said her clientele did not just include the elderly population of Mineral County.

“People have cut back on food stamps,” Adair said. “Eighty percent of our people are on social security. They need help. I’m not just talking about seniors. People get hurt and are on disability and they need help.”
