Plains school celebrates reading

PLAINS - Wednesday, the Plains Elementary School celebrated the end of “Reading Month,” with games and rewards, which got the whole school rolling over with laughter.
Throughout the month, students were challenged to read as much as they could, in addition to the required books they were reading in class. For every book they read they got a ticket for a drawing for their class. This past Wednesday names were drawn from a fishbowl. The students whose names were pulled received a Kindle donated by the Ponemah Mason Lodge #63. The top reader also received a Kindle.
“We strongly encourage the kids to read and get a good education, because it’s a competitive world out there...,” said lodge member Bill Burrell. The lodge awards up to three scholarships a year and donates to other charitable programs.
Teachers and the top readers from each class, third grade to sixth, competed in an obstacle course that involved jumping, sliding under tables, running around chairs and wrapping in streamers. This made the whole elementary class laugh with excitement.
After the obstacle course was completed and the Kindle’s were passed out, the last game started off. The teachers and principals competed in a blue jello and swedish fish eating competition. The jello was blue because the theme of the reading month was, “Under the Sea.” As the faculty raced to finish, the elementary class cheered on the teachers as jello fell from their faces.
When all was said and done, the classes returned to normal schedule and the jello was cleaned up.

3rd Grade- Jeffrey Johnson, Zander Czifro
4th Grade- Izeyah McQuiston, Hunter O’Brien
5th Grade- Connor Burnham, Rylee Gannarelli
6th Grade- Kaylee Cole, Ariel McCarren
Overall class drawing winner was Tyson Brouillette.
