SUPERIOR - The Superior/ Alberton Wildcat girl’s tennis team saw their first action of the season after the weather decided to cooperate and not rain them out last weekend.

The three woman team comprised of Alberton’s MacKenzie Spence and Superior’s own Sammi Francis and Lenaya Simpson played through the drizzle, blustery winds and the cold to take on Granite and Troy.

Head Coach Angie Hopwood said she was extremely pleased with how well the team performed considering the conditions.

“Mackenzie went to three sets in her singles match,” Hopwood said. “It started out real iffy. I was worried we were gonna have to cancel. But we were able to play our matches.”

Hopwood said the doubles match up of Simpson and Francis were able to come away with a victory.

“I’m really proud of the way they played,” Hopwood said. “We were able to make a lot of the shots we’ve been practicing. It was our first match. They are a young team but they played with a lot of heart.”

The team will next play at home against Valley Christian on April 7.
