Trotters split doubleheader at home

PLAINS - Tuesday the Plains-Hot Springs Trotters faced off against the Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers in a double header at the Plains High School field, at 4:00pm and 6:00pm.

The first game went to the Trotters, who won 18 to 7 after making some very large plays. The game saw some firsts for some and some strong plays for others.

At the top of the first inning the Breakers scored one run, while at the bottom of the inning the Trotters made four runs.

The second inning the Breakers scored 0 runs and the Trotters, who had their strongest inning, scored 9 runs. During the second inning Hailey Coe hit a two-run home run. She had 4 RBIs total. Coach Jeff Rude said, “It was her first home run... That was good for the team.”

The Trotters went three innings without scoring a run, but defensively held the breakers from scoring many runs, who over inning three to five scored 4 runs.

In the sixth and final inning the Trotters had a strong outing against the Breakers. At the top of the inning the Breakers scored two runs. When it came time for the Trotters at the bottom of the inning the girls from Plains and Hot Springs scored 5 runs. The final score was 18-7.

Coe, who had a strong game, won against the pitcher from Loyola Sacred Heart and hit her home run. Playing short stop, Sami Kinzie stopped multiple line drives and helped keep the Breakers from scoring some possible big plays. Jena Peterson hit two RBIs and 2 Doubles. Jessica Thompson, Leah Thompson, and Danika Witcomb all hit doubles.

Jeff Rude said, “They played well after the first game.” He then said the team really needed that win.

The second game, the Trotters started off the game at the top.

In the first inning it was a tie between the Trotters and Breakers in runs, 0 to 0.

The second inning as the two teams squared off, both defensively the two teams stopped either team from scoring a round.

Plains held strong in the third and fourth inning allowing the Breakers 1 round in third and 0 runs in the fourth. The Trotters scored 0 points in both the third and fourth innings.

The Trotters kept fighting to get on the board and in the fifth inning scored 1 run. The Trotters then held off the Breakers for scoring a run. The two teams were at 1 run each.

In the sixth inning the Trotters scored 0 Runs. The Breakers pulled ahead with 2 Runs, leaving the score at Trotters 1 to Breakers 3.

In the finals seventh inning, Plains gave it their best to catch up at the top of the inning and scored 1 Run. Despite the Trotters attempt, the Breakers held the lead and won 3 to 2.

Josy Carr’s double was the highlight of the game.
