Trotters take second at Archie Roe Invite

KALISPELL – Track and Fields athletes from Plains and Thompson Falls were in Kalispell last weekend to take part in the 40th annual Archie Roe Invitational.

The Plains Trotters had a successful day of competition capped by Hailey Phillips receiving the meet’s MVP award.

Phillips won three events for the Trotters at Archie Roe, including the 200-meter event and both hurdles events.

She took first in the 200-meters with a time of 26.25.

Phillips earned first place in the 100-meter hurdles by crossing the finish line at 15.46 and took the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles with a finish of 44.43.

Her time in the 300-meter hurdles was enough to break the meet’s record in the event, a mark Phillips had also set at 44.61.

Philips also took second in the 100-meter event with a 13.02.

Kayla Holmes earned first place in the shot put event with a throw of 39-11.

Leah Thompson took third in the shot put with a throw of 36-1.

Thompson also took home first in the discuss event with a throw of 119-3.

In the javelin event Carley VonHeeder finished third with a throw of 126-6 and Kimberly Earhart took fourth with a throw of 125-8.

According to Head Coach Denise Montgomery, Earhart also qualified for states in the 1,600-meter event.

Shannon Dimond took fifth in the 200-meter event, crossing the finish line with a 28.08.

The Trotters took fourth place in the 1,600-meter relay with a combined time of 4:20.65.

The Plains girls ended the meet in third place with a final score of 80 points.

The Lady Hawks of Thompson Falls took sixth at Archie Roe with a team score of 43 points.

Autrey Hannum led the charge for Thompson Falls finishing first in the high jump event with a jump of 5-5.

Shey Hannum took second in the high jump with a 5-3.

A. Hannum also took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16-11.

S. Hannum took second in the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump.

She finished the hurdles with a time of 49.20 and jumped to a 16-8.5 in the long jump.

S. Hannum also took fifth in the triple jump event with a jump of 33-11

Logan Beckman placed sixth in the javelin event with a throw of 117-9.

On the boy’s side of the meet the Thompson Falls Bluehawks were led by Jake Gascon who earned a third place finish in the pole vault event with a 13-0.

The Bluehawks also raced to a third place finish in the 1,600-meter relay with a team time of 3:36.25.

The Bluehawks ended the day with 12 team points.

Russell Kujala of Plains placed in both the 800-meter and 1,600 meter events for the Horsemen.

Kujala finished the 800-meter event in fifth with a time of 2:05.23 and also took fifth in the 1,600-meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:42.12.

“Russ had a strong meet,” Montgomery said.

Up next for Plains and Thompson Falls will be the district meet in Eureka.

Montgomery stated the team is looking to head into the district meet healthy and focused.

“We are going to make sure everyone is healthy and fine tune some things as we head into the district meet,” Montgomery said.

The district meet is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 9.
