THOMPSON FALLS - To begin the sunny, but blustery Tuesday game between the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks and the Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers, there was a special ceremony for one of the Lady Hawks players.

Madison Fitchett, the only senior on the team and pitcher, was recognized for her achievement as a softball player and graduating senior. With her parents, Michelle Fitchett-Parker and Randy Parker, the three walked out to the pitchers mound. While standing there, the announcer read Fitchett’s bio and future plans.

Fitchett plans on going to North Idaho College and pursuing a degree in nursing and hopefully playing softball as a Cardinal. She has played softball for three years, lettering every year and she coached one year. As part of her bio, a message from her thanking her fellow teammates, coaches, and her parents was read allowed.

Once the game commenced, it was the Breakers first at bat. The Breakers scored 1 run. Fitchett hit a single, but the Hawks couldn’t score, leaving them at 0 runs.

During the second inning it became apparent the Breakers came to win, scoring 6 runs. The Hawks were unable to get a player on base during the inning and the final score was, Hawks 0 runs, Breakers 6 runs.

The Hawks kept the Breakers from making any runs in the third inning, but were unable to put a point up on the scoreboard.

The fourth inning followed with the Breakers adding 2 runs to the board and the Hawks still standing at 0 runs after the inning.

The fifth inning no one scored a run as the Hawks fought to put a point on the board.

In the sixth inning Fitchett hit a double and on an RBI made it to home, making the score after the inning, Hawks 1 run to Breakers 8 runs.

The seventh inning neither team scored and the final score was, Hawks 1 run, Breakers 8 runs.

Though putting up a hard fight, Fitchett lost to the Breakers pitcher, she did have a 3-3 showing at bat and two doubles and Lexi Van Elswyk had one double. Kelsey Bonney had an overall 2-3 at bat, also.

Coach Randy Pirker said, “I’m very happy with it,” going on to describe that last time they sun gap was larger and this time the girls played harder against them. He then said, “I’m very happy with our senior pitcher, she pitched very well.”

To sum it up, Coach Pirker said, “We are just going to go back to the basics, when we start making errors we need to go back to the basics and that’s what we do and when we stop making those errors we should be fine.”

Two days later the Hawks were in Eureka, playing in a Western B-C matchup, winning a both games in a doubleheader.

The first game, the Hawks trailed 5-3 in the sixth inning, when they made 9 runs.

Fitchett won, striking out five batters in the first game, leading to Hawks to a 13-6 win.

Haley Morgan and Tamara Brubaker hit doubles in the first game. Fitchett, Bonney, Bowden hit an RBI, and Morgan hit 2 RBIs, along with Van Elswyk, and Brubaker.

The second game went even better for the Hawks, who scored 5 runs in the first inning and 6 runs in the second. By the end of the game, the Hawks had won, 16-3.
