Students return from Helena

PLAINS - Last week, seven students from the Plains High School Jobs for Montana Graduates [JMG] class traveled to Helena for a seminar to help prepare them for their professional future.

Annawyn Griffin, the JMG teacher, explained in further detail what the day entailed. “The guest speaker was Sannon Stober and she is part of the Verb Exchange and talked to the kids about how to communicate properly and effectively and as leaders. That is extremely important.”

Verb Exchange is a Canadian digital media company.

Shannon Dimond ,one of the students on the trip, said, “One thing that stuck out for me, was, because I’m not very confident talking to a bunch of people, so they said if you look confident you’ll actually fake it into actually being real.”

Griffin then said the students participated in a formal luncheon where the students sat with professionals from different industries to learn about what each career was like and how to get started. 

Lily Huenink, a senior from the class, said that one thing she took away from the class was the discussion of criticism in the work place. She said that the topic became a major focal point of the seminar. 

Satisfied with the trip, Griffin said all the students had a great experience and all of them had positive feedback after the trip.
