A shot in the foot

| October 10, 2015 8:53 PM

Have you ever 'shot yourself in the foot'?   I have, and just recently in, of all places, one of my letters to the editor.  I often talk about not being judgmental, doing the right thing, being compassionate, etc.  Then in a recent letter I made a disparaging comment about former president G.W. Bush.  A letter writer called me out on it, too.  This letter writer showed me my good aim when 'shooting myself in the foot', for sure.

Now, about this foot-shooting thing.  I have two questions.  How many times can the Republican party 'shoot itself in the foot' before it gets so lame it can't even move ahead anymore?  And how many feet does the Republican party have to endure the many 'shots in the foot' before it actually becomes  paralyzed?

The latest, all over the news this evening, is House Oversight Government Reform Committee hearing with President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards.  Obviously, going into this hearing, the Republicans were  'licking their chops' with all the tough questioning and facts they had to shake her down and make political points.  They failed miserably and Ms. Richards came out on top.  And Planned Parenthood remains one of the most popular programs in America.  So on we go toward 2016 and the presidential election process.

How many times can one person or even a large organization continue 'shooting itself in the foot' before they take aim in a different direction?

Stay tuned, there probably will be more Republican ill advised obsessions as we count down the weeks and months on through 2016.

An to all my golfing buddies, for whom my friendship with them is far more important to me than our political differences, in case you even read this letter after first looking at who wrote it, stay tuned, too.
