Esther S. Best

Esther S. Best, 75, of Superior passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at her home, of heart failure.

She was born on April 7, 1940, in Turner, ID, to LaVerl and Millie Smith. As the youngest of six children, she lived with her family in Grace, ID and graduated from high school there. On April 4, 1959 she married Clyde A. Best Sr. and the couple moved around the United States based on Clyde’s naval base assignments. Separated and divorced, Esther moved to Superior with her six children in 1975.

She was not afraid of hard work or learning to live off the land. She enjoyed reusing resources, natural herbs and medicine, gardening and was an avid reader. She also had a secret passion for drawing and would sketch out plants and nature scenes as well as self-portraits. She was a direct and opinionated woman who minced no words. She was loved for her candidness, sense of humor and tenacity.

Survivors include her three daughters and their families, Kim (John) Best-Chavez, Troyce E.K. Best, and Millie (Ben) Boychuk, and her two sons and families, Cash (Carolyn) Best and Courtney (Mylene) Best. Esther has twelve grandchildren and eight great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Clyde A. Best Jr.

A private gathering and burial took place on her homestead.
