Monday October 5th the Plains City Council voted in the new Plains Fire Chief, Jason Williams.

PLAINS - Williams was voted captain of the department January 2014 and became assistant fire chief 10 months ago. A member of the Plains community for six years, Williams described why he became a firefighter and eventually the new fire chief. In a written statement to the Clark Fork Valley Press, Williams explains his firefighting history and his goals for the department:

“I became interested in becoming a firefighter because my daughter Abby Williams wanted to become a firefighter when she, ‘grew up.’ I joined the Plains City Fire Department so I would have the opportunity to be directly involved with something she was at the time very passionate about.

My daughter has now completely lost interest in becoming a firefighter. I on the other hand have become very passionate about it and have found a great sense of fulfillment and love being an active part of the Plains City Volunteer Fire Department.  I love being able to give back to my community that has been my home for more than six years. I am blessed that I have the support of my wife and family. They understand the time commitment it takes to be involved with training and responding to the needs of our friends and neighbors in their times of need.

I am proud to work with a great group of dedicated men and women who support our mission and values. We all view each firefighter and their families as, ‘One Big Fire Department.’

As chief I plan to continue our great working relationship with the City of Plains. I plan to also continue to build a Fire Department that gives back to a community that is so very giving and supportive of us. This year we were able to help several other first responders and their families in times of need and plan to build on this program. Another idea we have discussed would to be to provide someone within our area of service who has lost their home in a fire with a check from our Department to help with immediate needs.”
